Bathroom Makeover. One Room Challenge Spring 2021 Week 6

Hello Stellar friends!

I wish I had more to share with you this week but I was out of town for most of week 6. I did demo the vanity and will have everything ready this week to install the tile. I thought I would share a bit more of the process to make the design on the walls since I didn’t go into much detail last week.

I used a laser to draw all the horizontal lines and would measure everything from there. Remember when you studied geometry in school and thought you would never use it in real life? yeah.. me too, this project proved it useful. The goal was to make the transition between walls as smooth as possible even though the sections were going to be different measurements.

After drawing the whole thing I went along and painted the diamond and triangle shapes with the deep blue paint. After painting several accent walls, I am a firm believer that the green frog tape is much better than the blue tape. It creates smooth lines and if prepped correctly, with the help of a firm card gliding over it and taking out the bubbles, you can prevent the paint from bleeding and ruining the lines.

As I mentioned last week, the half-round molding was not going to work so I decided to use oil-based paint markers. For this project, I used the gold Sharpie brand. The lines were already drawn on the wall so all that was left was training them with the marker. I bought a long metal ruler from Home Depot to cover the length of the longest lines, making it easy to trace in one stroke. As I worked on those lines, my kids also had fun with the markers, we sang and drew together, they couldn’t believe I gave them permission to draw on the walls!

I can’t wait to install the tiles and show you more progress next week. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @stellar.design.interiors for more updates.
